Stress fracture
Continuous pounding of running can put your bones under stress and cause tiny cracks in the bone — most commonly, weight-bearing bones of the lower leg and foot. This is known as a stress fracture. A stress fracture occurs to the metatarsal bones that make up the front part of the arch. And the most affected bones in a stress fracture are the second and third metatarsals.
The pain of a stress fracture happens at a localized and specific spot, which is usually the top portion of the bone. The sad part is that a stress fracture cannot be easily diagnosed as the pain is mild at first and intensifies with time.
