Plantar Fasciitis

Suffering From Plantar Fasciitis?

Regardless of age, plantar fasciitis (also called policeman’s heel) is a condition that anyone can suffer from. In fact, it is one of the most common causes of heel pain and affects more than 3 million people in the U.S. every year! Often, it is people with a higher activity level that become easy targets of plantar fasciitis. Dancing or running daily initiates the condition in many individuals.

But what is Plantar Fasciitis anyway?

Plantar fasciitis occurs when the plantar fascia, a thick band of connective tissue that runs across the foot’s bottom, gets inflamed. Stress is the most common cause leading to this inflammation and can be caused by several factors. The most common ones are wearing ill-fitted or high-heeled shoes that put plantar fascia under stress, obesity, and prolonged hours of standing or performing any physical activity that puts pressure on the feet.

From people between the ages of 40 to 60 to young athletes who practice a sport that puts a strain on feet, the inflammation to the plantar fascia ligament does not discriminate. It can happen to older and younger people alike.

Home remedies to cure plantar fasciitis

1. Cold compress

Putting a cold compress on the affected area can help people suffering from plantar fasciitis. Not only does it heal the inflammation, but it also aids in easing the pain. You simply have to grab some ice cubes, wrap them in a towel, and put them on your foot. Placing this cold compress will give you instant pain relief. Repeat the procedure at least two or three times a day for rapid recovery.  Another technique is to freeze a water bottle, place it under your foot and roll back and forth.

2. Exercises and stretches

Performing some specific exercise and stretches daily is the best route to go if you are looking for an easy way to cure the inflammation of your plantar fascia ligament. The most common ones are toe towel curls, plantar fascia massage, and soleus muscle stretch.

3. Lavender essential oil

Lavender has anti-inflammatory properties, which makes it a perfect solution for your inflamed plantar fascia. Dilute a few drops of lavender essential oil in a carrier oil of your choice and massage it into the bottoms of your feet.

4. Lose weight

Carrying extra weight can be the hidden reason for your inflamed plantar fascia and can even worsen your feet’ condition. Losing a few pounds can help alleviate the pressure and ease the pain. It’s easier said than done, but with some determination and hard work, it is possible!

5. Take some rest

Plantar fasciitis is a straightforward indicator that your feet are overworked. If you rest your feet and take a break from high-impact activities, you will see visible results in a few days.
